About Department

   Department of Chemistry is established in the year 2009. It offers undergraduate course (B.Sc.). Over the years, the department has been nurtured with dedication and strenuous hard work of the teachers and cooperative support staff. The Chemistry department prepares students for a diverse and changing world. We strive to contribute to a chemically literate society through teaching (with class and labs). Basic chemistry knowledge is necessary for doing research in any field. Knowledge of chemistry is indispensable for the pursuit of any other sciences. Understanding the basic chemistry is essential for all, but specializing in, chemistry make a career out of the subject is very interesting.
   To provide qualified graduates, to take responsibility of scientific research in various chemical sciences the department offers everything an undergraduate student is looking forward to in a college viz. Curricular, Co-curricular and extracurricular activities.Department has well equipped laboratories with adequate facilities and instruments required for practical’s and research.The laboratories are fully equipped with instruments such as PH-Meter, Conductivity meter, Colorimeter, Polari meter, Potentiometer, Refractometer, Distillation unit, Hot plates, Informative Charts .The teachers interact closely with students and are always ready to guide them. Students are given opportunities to try new experiments as a part of their regular project work. They are also encouraged to undergo summer training projects/workshops in the college and various scientific institutes. Students after doing graduation (B.Sc.) in chemistry can opt for either M. Sc. in Chemistry or in various other subjects like Environmental studies, forensic studies, green chemistry, and biotechnology. Students also get opportunities to enter reputed pharmaceutical companies, or enter the field of chemical engineering or in government departments. Faculty regularly uses ICT tools for teaching and various innovative teaching methods are used so that students can learn easily. Faculty members are actively involved in research and research publication. Meritorious students of B.Sc. I, B.Sc. II & B.Sc. III are encouraged by giving cash prizes by faculty members.
   Department has published an edited book of research articles “MOLECULE” with ISBN No.978-93-85882-56-2.Department has organized a national level conference “FRONTIERS IN CHEMICAL SCIENCES”(FCS 2017) on 23 December 2017. Department has organized a state level Power Point Presentation competition for UG students on 20 February 2017.


    In the beginning of every academic year, a course file is created. After dividing the topics, pedagogies for each of these are made. This is done by strictly adhering to the university timeline of internal assessments. Teaching at College mostly, concentrates on giving information which is not the sole objective of Teaching. Along with giving information, the other objectives are:

  • Developing understanding and application of the concepts
  • Developing expression power
  • Developing reasoning and thinking power
  • Development of judgment and decision making ability
  • Developing self-concept and value clarification
  • Developing proper study habits
  • Developing tolerance and ambiguity, risk taking capacity, scientific temper, etc.

   To achieve this teachers use various pedagogy techniques based on student-focused learning. Student integration and interaction are key elements of the classroom experience, and provide students the opportunity to share ideas, learn from each other, and develop the skills that will help them throughout their career. Different methodologies that include Cooperative, Collaborative, Project Based and Problem Based are used to accelerate the learning process. Through these assignments that include intensive interaction and participation, students are seen to grasp concepts better and faster.
   The relationship between a student and a teacher strengthens through this teaching tools as the teacher includes the student in his/her teaching module. This allows the student to feel like he/she is a part of the class. As a result, their participation leads to better results. Each topic is completed within the timeframe to allow the students enough time to grasp the concepts. After completion of topic a unit test is conducted on that topic and the answer sheets are discussed with the students to clear the problems they have faced in the unit test.
   The department adopts methods more on students centric to support structures in systems by teachers to develop skills in various learning process.The teacher’s concentrates much on introducing various modern techniques to make learning more effective for the benefit of students.ICT facilities are used to better the process of teaching for the students. Teachers use electronic resources to explain topics in detail and in depth. Teachers prepared PPT on the topics and discuss it with the students also various educational websites and educational video are shown to students. Quizzes are conducted at the end of each topic to analyze and confirm the understanding of every subject. Importance to practical knowledge is maintained throughout the year. Projects are given on regular basis to test their understanding and help the students learn beyond the syllabus. The learning process is enriched and empowered by the practices which develop communication skills, listening skills, solving problems, improving knowledge, training and participation in various academic programmes which enable the students‟ lifelong learning. During the Covid-19 pandemic teaching learning process was implemented through online mode by using google classroom, edmodo app, zoom, google meet and other various ICT tools. Students are highly motivated to participate in seminars, workshops, conferences, study tours, industrial visit, projects, Science Exhibition, Group discussion, Guest Lectures, symposium, Quiz programmes and club activities to enrich the different learning methods.
