DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY

Geography provokes and answers questions about the natural and human worlds, using different scales of enquiry to view them from different perspectives. It develops knowledge of places and environments throughout the world, an understanding of maps, and a range of investigative and problem solving skills both inside and outside the classroom. As such, it prepares pupils for adult life and employment. Geography is a focus within the curriculum for understanding and resolving issues about the environment and sustainable development. It is also an important link between the natural and social sciences.

Hon. Principal Dr. Gajanan Jadhav has established the Department of Geography in the academic year 2010-11. This is one of the well-equipped departments in the college. We have O.H.P., Automatic Slide Projector, 3-D Models, Slides, Atlases, Binocular, Weather Station Model, Globe, Maps, and Instruments of survey such as Prismatic Compass, Plane Table, Chain, Tape and other Essential Apparatus. In every academic session the department forms “Vasundhara Mandal” with active participation of students. The main task of this forum is to arrange various subject related functions throughout the year. The Geography department publishes wallpaper titled “Paryavaran”. This wallpaper is particularly dedicated to current environmental problems. Every year our department undertakes Socio Economic Survey of nearby villages. Our department arranges a Geography Study tour every year. The tour is organized to visit the places of geographical interest.

  1. To understand basic physical systems that affect everyday life (e.g. earth-sun relationships, water cycles, wind and ocean currents).
  2. To learn the location of places and the physical and cultural characteristics of those places in order to function more effectively in our increasingly interdependent world.
  3. To understand the geography of past times and how geography has played important roles in the evolution of people, their ideas, places and environments..
  4. To explain how the processes of human and physical systems have arranged and sometimes changed the surface of the Earth.
  5. To understand global interdependence and to become a better global citizen.
  6. To make the students aware about environment and its conservation.
